Check-ups and hygiene
Regular check-ups catch problems early, while they are small and simple to treat.

Is it right for me?
- Everyone, from first teeth onwards. How often you come depends on your oral health.
- Children's check-ups are free on the NHS for under-18s, and under-19s in full-time education.
- If it has been years since your last visit, that is fine. We start with where you are now.
What happens
Talk
We ask about your health, medicines and anything that has been bothering you.
Examine
A full check of your teeth, gums, tongue and soft tissues, including a mouth cancer check.
X-rays if needed
Only when they will show something we cannot see, never as a routine extra.
Plan
We explain what we found and agree your next visit. Any treatment comes with a written price.
Cost and finance
A new patient consultation is £65 and a routine check-up is £48. A hygiene visit starts at £75, or both are included in the Brightwell Care Plan.
Interest-free finance is available on treatment over £1,000, subject to status. Sample wording: a real practice uses the approved wording from its finance provider.

- Hygiene visits can leave gums a little tender for a day. This settles on its own.
- Bleeding gums when you brush are a sign of gum inflammation, not a reason to brush less. Tell us at your next visit.
- Between visits, brush twice a day and clean between your teeth.
Every mouth is different. Your dentist will explain the risks and alternatives that apply to you before you decide.
Common questions
How long does a check-up take?
About 20 minutes for a routine check-up, and 40 minutes for your first visit as a new patient.
What does a hygienist do?
A hygienist removes hardened plaque (tartar) that brushing cannot shift, and shows you how to keep your gums healthy at home.
Are check-ups free for children?
Yes, on the NHS. Treatment is free for under-18s, and under-19s in full-time education.
